The AAUW
Educational Foundation, which is the largest source of funding exclusively for
graduate women in the world, supports aspiring scholars around the globe,
teachers and activists in local communities, women at critical stages of their
careers, and those pursuing professions where women are underrepresented.
The Foundation
supports scholars pursuing a vast spectrum of academic research; public school
teachers promoting girls’ achievement in math, science, and technology; and
community activists helping to improve the lives of women and girls through
education. Funding also assists women at critical stages of their careers, as
well as those preparing for professions underrepresented by women. In
addition, special funding is available for a college/university
scholar-in-residence to research issues of gender and equity.
In all, the Foundation has helped more than 7,500 women in more than 120
nations pursue their personal and professional goals through fellowships,
grants, and awards.
In 2000-2001,
268 outstanding women received Foundation funding. Each year, approximately 25
percent of recipients (not including International Fellows) are women of
color.
To qualify for a fellowship or grant, applicants must demonstrate scholarly or
professional excellence as identified in the program criteria. Preference is
given to women whose civic, community, or professional work shows a commitment
to advancing the lives of women and girls.
The AAUW Educational Foundation provides funds to advance education, research,
and self-development for women, and to foster equity and positive societal
change.
In principle and in practice, the AAUW Educational Foundation values and seeks
diversity. There are no barriers to full participation in this organization on
the basis of gender, race, creed, age, sexual orientation, national origin, or
disability.
Applicants are not required to be members of AAUW or contributors to the AAUW
Educational Foundation.
