| February 06, 2008 Yuba River, North Fork - Effective March 1, 2007 the North Fork of the Yuba River along Hwy 49 is now open all year round from the western edge of Sierra City downstream to Bullards Bar. From Novermber 16th thru the Friday preceeding the last Saturday in April, only Artifcial lures or flies with barbless hooks may be used, no bait and zero bag limit. From the last Saturday in April thru November 15th the normal regulations are in effect. Current conditions are flows around 250CFS. The water temps will be very cold probably hovering around the 40 degree mark. Most likely patterns to use will be nymph patterns such as flashback pts, quasimotos, sloan mighty may baetis, copper johns (copper, red, black) disco midges, brassies. In the afternoon there could be some baetis hatching.
Current conditions for the Lower Yuba are 2000 CFS with water clarity good. Current hatches include Pale Morning Duns,Blue Wing Olives and Skwala Stones. These hatches will occur during midday starting around noon till 3:30-4:00. Fish the Skwalas right on the edges about 2 feet from shore. If there are no hatches coming off you will have to go down for them, nymph patterns to use are san juan worms, flasback pts, quasimotos, sloan mighty may, copper johns, etc.
