The FIGs Need You!

A new group, the Forest Issues Group (FIG), has been formed to monitor the activities of the Tahoe National Forest. In the first six months that it has been active, the group successfully appealed the Cavanah Sale, a nasty timber sale in the Foresthill Ranger District, and has commented on several others. They also are actively working to achieve more flora & fauna protection through habitat preservation forest-wide.

The FIGs are affiliated with the Sierra Nevada Campaign, which is a project of the California Ancient Forest Alliance (CAFA). Locally, the FIGs are composed of members of the Sierra Club, California Native Plant Society, Audubon Society, the South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL) as well as interested forest lovers. There is plenty of room for you. In fact, we need you! Training sessions are available. All you need is the commitment to protect our forest and some time. Contact Don Jacobson at 272-1433 or by e-mail: his username is dj, and his internet service provider is oro.net.
