How does COTR worship?

The following questions and scriptural answers will explain how we worship God. The scriptures we chose are good ones, but there are plenty more where they came from! These quotes came from the King James version of the Bible.

Why do we stand when we sing?

"And the Levites, of the children of Korhites, stood up to praise the Lord God of Israel with a loud voice on high."
II Chronicles 20:19

Why do we clap our hands?

"O clap your hands all ye people, shout unto God with the voice of triumph."
Psalms 47:1

Why do we lift our hands?

"I will therefore that men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting."
I Timothy 2:8

Why do we praise God out loud?

"By Him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His name."
Hebrews 13:15

Why do we pray and sing in other tongues and in English?

"For if I pray in an unknown toungue, my Spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is it then? I will pray with the Spirit and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the Spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also."
I Corinthians 14:14-15

Why do we sing choruses as well as hymns?

"Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom: teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord."

Why are musical instruments a part of the worship service?

"Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet; praise Him with the psaltry and harp. Praise Him with the timbrel and dance. Praise Him upon the loud cymbals: Praise Him upon the high sounding cymbals."

Why do we have speaking with tongues and interpretation of those tongues?

"Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak in tongues."

Why do we anoint with oil and pray for the sick?

"Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer offered in faith will restore the on who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him."
James 5:14-15

Why do we dance before the Lord?

"Let them praise His name in the dance: Let them sing praises unto Him with the timbrel and harp."
