The HLCA operates a new community center facility in the Higgins Corner/Lake of the Pines area of Nevada County at the corner of Magnolia Rd. and E. Hacienda Dr.
The Center was built as a result of a grant from the Lions Clubs International Foundation, the generous support of the people in our local Community and the Nevada County Board of Supervisors. The multi-purpose building is named for Mr. Roy Peterson of Grass Valley who donated the land on which the Center is located and was a major financial contributor towards the construction of the project.
The facility has a 4000 square foot main building (The Roy Peterson Building) with a large multi-purpose room that will accomodate up to a 200 person banquet and is suitable for weddings, dances, anniversaries, meetings, fund raisers, business presentations, etc. A big screen TV and VCR equipment can be provided for use at a reasonable charge.
Also available is a large, modern, commercial kitchen licensed and approved by Nevada County Department of Environmental Health. The kitchen is fully equipped with a range, refrigerator, icemaker, dishes, dishwasher and food preparation equipment. The convenience of a full service bar, if desired, will be provided and staffed by volunteer members of the Higgins Diggins Lions Club.
Located adjacent to the main building a park area suitable for outdoor barbeques and picnics is open and free for use by the general public. The park area has picnic tables, a large barbeque pit and a covered food preparation building.
The HLCA provides the use of the entire facility free of charge to youth groups such as Boy/Girl Scouts, 4H, etc. The continued support of the Higgins Diggins Lions Club and The Bear River Lioness Club plus the rental of the Roy Peterson building for private events make this possible.
