Clyde Hall -- Volunteer for all Seasons
by Barbara J. Tanner

clyde.jpg (9881 bytes)Clyde Hall moved from Rolling Hills in L.A. County to Nevada County in the ‘80s. He had spent 40 years there working as a director of Facilities Management in the field of Aero-Space Technology. Representing the U.S. Government, he travelled world-wide advising foreign corporations on how to construct their facilities efficiently and cost-effectively. During his career, he was credited with supervising 14,000 square feet of construction and amassing 4,000 miles in the process!

In spite of his demanding work schedule, Clyde found time to volunteer with his son’s Boy Scout Troop. He told of flying home after a week of travel, driving to a Scout weekend encampment, driving home on Sunday and hopping a flight for yet another week abroad. He also spent 10 years as a planning commissioner and served as a city councilman.

Since moving to Nevada County, Clyde has served on the Grand Jury twice, been a member of the Child Abuse Advisory Council, chaired the Miner’s Foundry "Restoration Repair Team" (which averaged 3,000 hours a year), and various other advisory groups. Currently, he is Temple Board Facilities Manager for the Nevada City Masonic Lodge, and an advisor on the Juvenile Hall Facilities Construction Committee. To no one’s surprise, Clyde is a recipient of the annual "J.C.Penney Volunteer of the Year Award."

The Nevada County Land Trust would like to acknowledge Clyde for his volunteer efforts on our behalf. Working tirelessly, he assisted in the construction of the Litton Trail. After completion of Phase 1 construction, Clyde was responsible for installing benches at various intervals along the route, having devised a method of securing them with a series of metal rods. Now, plans are in the works to install picnic tables using the same method. With the sunny summer months upon us, Litton Trail Phase 2 is taking shape, and Clyde Hall, volunteer for all seasons, will quite likely be in on the action!
