Treks Through Time
Bear Valley and Butterflies

This trek to the Discovery Trail and beyond will bring you to virgin forest, meadow and wetland communities, where co-leaders John Olmstead and Art Shapiro will share with you their knowledge of the local flora and fauna, as well as pointing out historical highlights.

Dr. Shapiro is a butterfly specialist who has identified 99 species of butterflies in this area.

John Olmstead will lead an afternoon hike to see historic mining flumes along the South Yuba Canal and the Donner Party rescue area.
