Come and explore the
beautiful fall Sierra, with a healthy dose of history to boot! This multi-staged trek led
by John Olmstead, you will learn about different periods in Californias history. The mornings one-mile trek along a granite emigrant wagon
train also includes Native American petroglyphs, Chinese-built stone retaining walls and
old railroad snow sheds. After lunch, the moderately adventurous can continue the trek 3
more miles to Donner Peak (elevation 8,019).
And if that is not enough, there will be an optional
cross-country trek along an old emigrant trail around Mt. Juda (8,243) and up Roller Pass,
where the emigrants devised a system of ropes and pulleys to haul their wagons up the
cliff, using teams of oxen. Expect to be impressed. |
