Farewell-to-Spring and 3 other luxuriant species
of lavendar and magenta clarkias come alive as the tiny grasses and bulbs turn golden.
This third wave of color also features sidalceas, sandwort, mtn. jewelflower, paper onions
and lemon-yellow buckwheats. Bring your camera and close-up lenses, plus a magnifier
and learn the basics of wildflower ID. Leading this early morning trek is botanist
Carolyn Chainey-Davis of the California Native Plant
Society. Her brother, ace-birder Mark Chainey, will bring his spotting scopes
and give you a closer look at the towhees, juncos, woodpeckers, hummers, vireos, wrens,
sparrows and other birds that call this unique place home.
