The Yuba River system gave birth to hydro-electric power industry in the late 1890's. Learn how it all started in Nevada County!

This trek starts with a slide show presented by your leader, Dale Johnson describing the many factors that came together to create the Nevada Power House or as it was affectionately called the "Rome Power House" and how it led to the birth of PG & E.

Then drive to Lake Vera and visit historical sites, like the headdam, learn about the significance of the Rock Creek Ditch. And, finally hike to view the site of the Rome Power House near Devil's Slide on the South Yuba River.
